I guess we can conclude that Givex basically processes the gift card as a Visa and use the exchange rates set by Visa, as using any other Visa card. So far we have seen successes in Canada, Thailand, some European location and Dubai the latest. Back in 2019 Skycity at HKG and Sheraton in Marcau refused to use the Givex system, claiming they were not set up, and insisted to do the gauging method - i.e. converting the USD value to the local currency at a gauging rate as if you use foreign currency to get local currency at hotel receptions. Of course with the Pandemic since 2020, no way to know if those sleazy practices are still in place.
Glad to see Australia now is working (in 2019 at Perth the Westin could not make it work, they ended up waived the 1.5% surcharge and let me pay with an AMEX without surcharge)
I hope folks who have been using gift cards at international locations report back their experiences, success or failure, all would be very useful info.
