Isn't the problem that the economics are very highly geared to pax numbers? Assume a breakeven of 30 pax, and an average of £3K revenue per pax per sector. When she did a double daily to NYC, that would be something like 650 return trips pa or 1300 sectors. If she carries only 25 pax per sector rather than 30, the loss of revenue would be £15K per sector or £20m pa annualised, most of it an operating loss. On the other hand, if she carries 40 pax per sector, then that turns into £40m pa annualised extra revenue, most of that an operating profit.
