As mentioned above, any main line plane without beds is pretty much equal in this situation. Agree that it is very uncomfortable but it's not unusual. In these cases I'd rather have a connection and stretch my legs midway. Recently flew TPA to SEA and chose connections both ways rather than enduring 6 hours in a recliner seat.
