Personally (and since I live near Gatwick I don't have specific experience), I'd go for the North Terminal Premier Inn. It's close by, inexpensive and Premier Inns are always quite comfortable with decent size rooms. It's a bit of a steal to get an airport hotel that close for the money.
Thank you that's great advice. I had booked the Hilton at South Terminal as Premier Inn didn't come up on any of the hotel booking sites and I didn't think to search for them. I've cancelled the Hilton now and booked the Premier Inn. Wonderful
