The cap is per UA MP account, source of funding does not matter. Caution, it is generally advised to not bank miles and only purchase for an immediate need. Also if buying miles try to look for 2 cents per mile or better offers -- when UA runs a sale or Award Accelerator. Finding award opportunities better than 2 cpm can be difficult.
