I guess I can bump my own thread from a while ago, as this voucher is now about to expire. Since LUV vouchers can't be used for excise taxes or security fees, no matter what I buy I will have to pay some $$$ for these (let's say $100 voucher, $20 in tax+ etc). I know if I then cancel that reservation, I will get $120 as a travel fund -- but I assume the $20 will then be tainted with the expiration date of the LUV voucher which is only a few months away?

It's kind of frustrating because I have a scenario like that where the LUV voucher is large enough where I don't want to throw it away (have already had travel funds expire) but I don't want to throw away _more_ money in case I still don't make the latest flight.
