Special Secondary Security Screening, I think?
I got done after buying a last-minute SFO-JFK the other week. I think all last minute one-ways get flagged these days (although I agree with
economyman that the reasoning is rather spurious). OK, so it took about 10mins but I knew it'd happen and didn't get flustered by it and just let them get on with it. I'd left plenty of time to get through and I wasn't
that keen on rushing to the dreary Admiral's Club to let it wind me up! Some of the other pax in the same line just didn't seem to get it and were getting quite annoyed behind me when they were being told to take off shoes, belts, etc.
This sort of stuff is normally only as bad as you let it get IMHO. The agents carefully handled my hand luggage as they searched it, swabbed my laptop no problem and did a sensitive enough slow 'all over scan' with the metal detector. I've waited
much longer in 'normal' security queues around the world which, to be honest, pisses me off much more - I hate queues/waiting. At least something is happening during SSSS!
