My wife, toddler and I stayed last Saturday night in a King room booked 2 weeks in advance for £67.
I was hoping to be automatically upgraded 3 days prior, but this did not happen, nor did I get any pre-arrival messages from the hotel. At check-in there was only one staff and a long wait because someone was trying to book for that night. (They were offered a walk-in rate of £89 which they paid in banknotes.) The hotel was not full, but no upgrade was forthcoming. A big fuss was made over committing to times for dinner, breakfast and pool use. I was given a square token labelled "Diamond breakfast". Cookies were good.
The basic room is a good size and has opening windows. Our room overlooked the carpark and Waterworld. As mentioned above, there is air conditioning as well as a traditional radiator by the window, so the room was nice and toasty, but should be cool-able in summer. There are plenty of plug sockets, including USB wall outlets. Insufficient lighting made the room quite dark after sunset.
The bathroom box has a rainfall head and handheld shower. Water pressure was not great. The glass "half pane" was not immobile and thus caused minor floor flooding. Wifi is free for all and very fast. Sound insulation is poor, thus heard lots of talking and doors slamming until I fell asleep.
The pool was limited to 20 guests per half-hour and we were "allowed" to book 1 hour to start. Nothing was enforced, since there was only one other group when we arrived. After a while they were replaced by a family with small kids, and then a further family with kids replaced us. Oddly these groups and us also went to dinner and breakfast in the same order. Towels and small lockers (pound coin needed) are available, but it seemed safe to leave belongings on the side benches. There are two roomfuls of gym equipment and two saunas.
As it was raining heavily we chose to eat at the hotel. As we had not selected a time during check-in, the staff were a bit awkward even though the restaurant never got full. This may have been because many guests were on the "half-board" package obliging them to eat there. This package provides £25pp to spend, but only costs £15pp over the flexible breakfast rate. (As a Diamond with free breakfast, the £25 credit would have cost me over £30 each.)
Service was fast and friendly. The food was of average quality, so while the prices are not that high on an absolute basis, it still felt expensive. We gave the £15 kids’ junk food menu a pass, and the pictured food was enough for 2½ stomachs. The restaurant does not trust everyone to bill to their rooms, and requires proof that you've authorised a card – they were satisified with the pre-auth receipt in my wallet, but said that the front desk would have marked my blue Hilton paper keyholder with a green dot.
Breakfast starts at 0730 on weekends. I forgot the Diamond token so went back to get it, so my wife arrived first and somehow caused the staff member to pore confusedly over the full guest list. Once I handed over the token she brightened up. It was too crowded to take photos. The range of food was on par with other UK DTs. The hot food was meant to be served by staff, but nobody was present for some time, so people were serving themselves. I was reaching for a fried egg when the guy returned and berated me. My egg had bits of shell in it, other than that quality was good.
This property can’t command £150+ every Saturday night like some UK DTs, but I was happy with what we paid. It was my son’s first time swimming and the pool was perfect for this.
