Several here have mentioned Hawaiian... personally I think some sort of extended alliance between Delta and Hawaiian makes a ton of sense given Delta is about to lose its partnership with Virgin Australia. Delta currently only has LAX-SYD, Australia is about to re-open, and Delta will be locked out of all non-SYD destinations in Australia without VA and no domestic Skyteam airlines in Australia. However, Hawaiian is in a great position to add/offer HNL-MEL, HNL-BNE and HNL-AKL. Delta already connects to HNL via LAX, SFO, SLC, SEA, MSP, ATL and I believe JFK in the past. This could feed volume into the theoretically new HA HNL-MEL/BNE/AKL routes.... then imagine if DL/HA allowed free stopovers in HNL between the US and Australia/New Zealand? I'd certainly take them up on that offer! Could be a great way for DL to get back into the south pacific market via a B6/AA type of alliance with HA (and yes, I know DOJ is challenging B6/AA). I don't see DL walking away from the Australia market, what other options are viable for them?
