I have been SE since 2008 and since that time have very rarely flown Y, mostly due to upgrades and rewards. Once, a cancelled red-eye flight YVR-OGG put my wife and I in a one bedroom suite at the Ritz-Carlton on AC’s account in Maui, while others literally spent 22 hours in the airport, because the island’s hotels were mostly sold out during a busy time. I would literally write AC a cheque for $7000 to keep my SE status if I could.
