It's been traditional for some properties in Asia (for example, generally hotels in Japan that aren't part of a foreign chain) to charge for swimming pools access, often in the form of a daily fee. that was about $20 several decades ago. In some cases, the same hotels charge locals to use the pool facilities or have a swim club for locals with a high annual fee. Some of these pool clubs are considered very prestigious, with the health club at PHT being a leading example of this.
