United has a new promotion through the end of Feb (2022) with up to a 100% bonus. The all-in cost works out to 1.88 cents/mile (and about 1.84 cents/mile if purchased with a MP-affiliated credit card). The terms cite the annual mileage purchase limit of 175k and that bonus miles count toward that limit. However, the purchase options go to 112.5k + 112.5k (bonus) = 225k.
I know the annual limit was raised to 225k earlier in the pandemic but can't find any evidence, other than the apparent willingness to let me buy more, that the limit has been raised again. Just curious. Though I may find out before the end of the promo since I need 180k for an upcoming trip.
And, for those who always seem to question purchasing miles, I only use them for international business class where I always get a value of 3-4 cents per mile, or more.
I fondly remember the days when US miles were priced at ~1.2 cpm during sales AND those guys had a sweet award chart, laden with oversights such as including SVO in East Asia, even though the only way to get from China or Japan to SVO was via Europe.
