I just called AAdvantage. It looks like they cannot book these first class awards. Maybe they are available only to China Southern Sky Pearl Club members. Anyone have any luck on this route? If it was working, it should price out at 110,000 AAdvantage miles + $133.20 each.
Another data point, called about a CAN-SYD award that shows F8 in EF, but AA agent sees 0.

Sounds like the issue from 2019 still isn't fixed
