I have lurked around these forums for about a year now and have finally registered. Before asking a question let me thank you guys for all the help your have provided me this is truly one of the greatest forums I have ever visited which is why I finally decided to register Now for my question, I notice many of you have posted about the trick to get a cheap fair when flying via Colombo (Sri Lanka). My question is first is Colombo a safe airport ? I have read about it's deteriorating runways and the frequent terrorist problem, although I love a cheap fair I would prefer to hold on to my life Next off I want to know how exactly do I purchase a Colombo ticket ? My flight plan is basically I need to get from SFO to ANY destination in India. Following the CMB trick I would arrive there and buy a ticket from CMB to somewhere in India. Here is where the problem lies, if I price a ticket roundtrip originating in the USA I get a price of around 3.5k, not bad, but when the SAME trip originates in Sri Lanka the price is 1.5k -- Amazing difference ! I know that in theory I could fly a one way CMB - SFO and fly SFO - CMB in economy but if there is anyway I could take advantage of flying business from SFO - CMB this would be very advantageous. My next question is that can I just skip the CMB leg of the trip ? What exactly do I mean ? Very simple; I arrive in Singapore and decide I no longer want to take my "vacation" in Colombo, instead I would prefer to stay in Singapore so I take out my Cell Phone, Insert my Sing-Tel GSM card and cancel my SIN - CBM or CMB ? Either Way I cancel that let and let them keep the money. I would gladly pony up then to fly some route that gets me from SIN to somewhere in India. Complex questions I know but believe me I appreciate your time; if you only have time to answer one question please tell me how I can get a fair originating in SFO for a roundtrip to Colombo for the price of a ticket originating in Colombo (if this is even possible).
