I've had the privilege of flying my whole life (3.5 million miles) and for me, flying is a means to get from point A to point B. Many times I've paid for Business or First class. Having lifetime status on AA and UA gets me the choice of all seats I want (Exit row/Bulk heads) so at 6'3" 228 lbs I am at least comfortable. While it stinks to get downgraded or lose an upgrade, I am still getting from Point A to Point B SAFELY. To that end, I want my pilots rested and refreshed. I want them sharp and attentive. And in this case for a 3+ hour flight, in my spoiled opinion, its not a big deal. Should the OP be compensated? Sure. What's fair? Sadly the airline holds all of the cards. I"ve found if I present my side of the story with kindness and respect, I get a hell of a lot more than if I ..... and complain. So it seems this forum is where people come to ..... and complain. Then we as readers, including me, offer our two cents worth. And what good does that do? I just happened to have a few minutes between patients and thought this thread deserved my two cents.

Simple question, would you take the offer? Actually a really good question, since a lot of people value that upgrade at approximately that amount. Some lower, some higher.
As for me, if we were talking about a decent MCE seat and I wasn't already awash in more AA credit than I needed, I would accept the downgrade. But I also understand people who would rather keep their J seat.
