It does make me nervous that you are all recommending documenting the contents of our bags specifically for this flight (or was that a general recommendation?). I would do that anyway but it sounds like there's a larger-than-usual chance they would get lost? Since our flights originate in Athens (we are not coming from another connection), it seems like the probability of loss should be minimal?
Don't worry. I think the chance of your bag getting lost between ATH and JTR is almost zero. I was just saying that for completeness, to agree with he other poster and because you already seemed worried. With 15 years of Aegean/Olympic flying (approx. 250 flights) I've never had anything delayed or damaged, never mind totally lost. Baggage claim at JTR should be easy - I bet you would wait no more than 5 or 10 minutes. Going back to ATH it can take a little longer, but it's still better than most other places I've visited. Despite my previous post, I personally would just check the bags anyway. I like to wonder around the airport with as little as possible and don't want to be bothered taking out liquids at security or fighting for overhead space.

I work with tourists on the small island of Paros. I can tell you that sometimes people arrive in July and August and their bags don't, but that's usually due to short connections in Athens. Even when this happens, I've never heard of a bag not arriving later the same day or first thing in the morning if it's the last flight.
