When you redeem points for travel, Chase's agency pays the hotel with money using their own credit card account. Nothing happens if you close your card, BUT if you need to change or cancel the reservation it will be complicated. It would be better to downgrade to a Freedom card (even if you already have one), so that the agency can see your Chase account for refund or other purposes.
