I was due to be on UA590 BWI/ORD this afternoon, only for it to be cancelled at a couple of hours notice. I assumed it was to do with the incoming storm, but I was easily able to rebook on to a later DCA/ORD flight, so there was no problem with planes heading to Chicago.
It is listed as severe weather. You can find the information on the flight status on the United.com website or on the United App.
When severe weather is forecast, or occuring, the schedule will be trimmed to relieve congestion and allow the remaining flights to operate instead of created massive gridlock. It allows for a more rational, organized reduction in flights due to the weather.
