I hate the covid excuse as well. Don't lie to me. But it seems in certain cities (e.g., New York) even many luxury properties will only provide a coffee maker "on request." Encountered this at MO NYC a couple weekends ago (where they only told us on check-out day that we could have requested a coffee maker in-room).
