I've connected in Miami with a 45 minute layover many times and it's doable and not especially stressful other than the aforementioned overhead bin space. You can hop on the Skytrain to move between gates pretty easily if yours are far apart.

I recently did that connection (E satellite to low D) and I agree that timewise it’s about a wash taking the train vs walking. If you have heavy bags or are not a fast walker you might prefer the train.
Still though, 20 minutes to make it from gate to gate leaves you 10 minutes before the door closes. Not the connection I’d prefer especially given the dismal catering and tiny uncomfortable lavs AA is offering these days. Would rather leave time for a brief stop at the lounge even if it’s just for a bathroom break (without bruising my head or elbows) and a cup of soup.
