I tried BA and Lufthansa for those date (random but selected 3/7 - 3/10) and they both say no avaialbilty. Do I need to select that I am using a partner airline?

The easiest way to search for AS partner availability is to search on aa.com: no log-in required. (To search for award seats on ba.com, you must first log in to your BAEC account, and select "pay with Avios" from a drop-down menu.)

I would recommend doing one-way searches; it is conceivable that the most economical itinerary on some of your trips will involve flying one airline on the outbound, and a different airline on the return.
