We booked a 4 night stay over Xmas 2021 using points, 2 adults, 2 kids, standard room. Received the "upgrade" offer shown above and I indicated my interest in a club room before we left. At check in, the concierge said it would be $100 to upgrade to a club room. I responded that the email indicated $60, and he said "okay." Clearly, the upgrade price is negotiable.

Responding to the question about joining rooms, we were in a "regular" room - not a 1 BR or presidential suite, and there was a door to connect us to the adjoining room. So the possibility is there to have two adjacent rooms with an inside connecting door. Our room was located in the portion right above the lobby, not in one of the wings.

Responding to another earlier post, the pools were not heated, but you adjusted within seconds with 82-84 degree temperatures. There are hot tubs to warm you up if needed!
