I have several BA flights booked through Alaska Airlines, using their miles. The email confirmation always shows two booking confirmation codes, one for AS and one for BA. I can use the latter on the BA website Manage My Booking” along with the passenger last name, and go to the seat selection screen to pick our seats.

Hopefully AA does the same with their booking confirmation.
