canceling the return leg after departure
I am in a difficult situation to use up the travel credit that I got due to the pandemic. It will expire at the end of February and I am trying to use it up. I have about 300USD in travel bank and I would like to book a ticket to London but I want to buy only one way, though I will probably use the return leg at centain point but just not sure. One way tickets are so expensive that it would make sense if I book round trip even if I don't take the return leg. If I book a simple roundtrip from JFK to Lon and cancel the return leg, will I get the remainder of the ticket value to my travel bank? Suppose the ticket shows 250 to London and return part is 450. If I cancel the ticket after my outbound leg to London, will I get 450 back to my travel bank? Or is it 400 (250+450-300). Now what if the outbound leg is on AA? I think the rule is that I cannot use the travel credit to AA flights, so if I use the travel credit for a roundtrip that includes AA leg, what will happen to my refund if I cancel the return leg?
