Never mind, I think I answered my own question after reading through the “Guide: Trip Credit…” thread. Sounds like it’s only good for the ticketed passenger.
Unfortunately AA jacked up the price while I was trying to figure out this info. So not even sure if I’ll book it anymore. Ah well, good to know for next time!
If it's a large amount, you can spend, say, $50 on a ticket that you have no intention of using. Then you will get a voucher for the balance that can be used by anyone.
