To be clear an "ecredit" wasn't issued.. When you cancel an eticket, it then appears in the section called ecredits. Ecredits are simply unused etickets and DL CS vouchers. As the ticket still had status of CHKIN, system didn't see an unused OPEN status eticket and thus there was no open "ecredit."
BTW DL doesn’t check you in automatically. The app basically starts the process to check you in. Simply cancel out instead of hitting the acknowledge button. By law DL can't check you in till they've received your acknowledgement to the question about hazardous materials/ lithium batteries. I always hit cancel.. There's generally zero benefit to checking in 1st or last.
Regardless, in future if you buy ticket via OTA, cancel via them. DL shouldn't have allowed you to cancel via them.
You really hate being wrong, don't you?
Both Delta and United allowed us to cancel tickets directly with them and receive full credit for those cancelled tickets. In Delta's case we actually had tickets from two totally different flights from different trips but one of them had been cancelled before the 24 hour window so we had zero problems using those eCredits with no assistance. We have cancelled many flights booked through Chase directly with the airline with no problems until this one. You seem to be convinced everyone else is wrong though my experience is telling me it is your view that is incorrect.
Thanks to everyone on Flyertalk who helped find the real solution. I appreciate it and hope this thread can help others in similar situations.
