In my situation, since this flight was scheduled for the week that Delta was having all the cancellations, I decided to wait to cancel my flight to see if they would cancel so I could get a refund instead of the eCredit. Delta automatically checked me into my flight at the 24 hour mark and then I cancelled right after I received the check-in notification. Canceling after check-in is apparently what caused this issue with the eCredits closing, not booking through Chase. As I mentioned, I also had a ticket on United that I was able to use the credits for no problem even though I cancelled directly with the airline.
To resolve this, I did what willywilkes suggested. I used the chat feature on Delta.com, got an agent immediately, explained that my eCredits were showing as closed because they were issued after check-in, and she immediately knew what the issue was and was able to move them to open status. Our travel agent friend was apply to apply them to our upcoming trip. Easy peasy. I went into the chat at 2:50, had an agent chatting by 2:51, and all the eCredits for the four members of my family were reopened by 3:12.
The title as stated is correct and describes what you stated in your 1st post.
To be clear an "ecredit" wasn't issued.. When you cancel an eticket, it then appears in the section called ecredits. Ecredits are simply unused etickets and DL CS vouchers. As the ticket still had status of CHKIN, system didn't see an unused OPEN status eticket and thus there was no open "ecredit."
BTW DL doesn’t check you in automatically. The app basically starts the process to check you in. Simply cancel out instead of hitting the acknowledge button. By law DL can't check you in till they've received your acknowledgement to the question about hazardous materials/ lithium batteries. I always hit cancel.. There's generally zero benefit to checking in 1st or last.
Regardless, in future if you buy ticket via OTA, cancel via them. DL shouldn't have allowed you to cancel via them.
