Had a 1 night stay last night. Quick recap:
Pros:
-Beautiful new build hard product looks nice, good desk in room, etc.
-Lounge is open 24/7 for coffee/water/very light snacks (trail mix, jelly beans)... lounge breakfast wasn't special but it was at least edible (real scrambled eggs, not powder, good croissants). Evening does not appear to have any offerings.
-Caroline's Oyster Bar's service and menu was great. My stay and dinner was covered by travel insurance, so the prices didn't bother me. I enjoyed Alaskan king crab (available by the ounce at $8/oz; six ounces is a great portion), scallop ceviche, and oysters rockefeller. Cocktail prices for the menu-listed cocktails are a little high but not terrible; other booze prices are way high though (think $16 for Knob Creek, $20+ for anything premium-ish). The upcharge to go from a spirit pour to a manhattan is $7 (normally $2-4).
-Very convenient location, 11 min to CLT this morning
-Good elevators; it's the kind where you input your floor into the control panel and it directs you to an elevator (no button pushing once inside the elevator), and it was very quick and efficient with pleasant sounds.
Cons:
-Bed was just off... I personally don't mind firm beds, but this seemed weirdly firm and maybe slightly raised in the middle compared to the sides? And the pillows were sad and flat, so the ratio of pillow-squish to mattress-squish was way too high. I eventually slept fine but it took some time to fall asleep whereas normally I'm out within 30 seconds on a good hotel bed.
-Shower pressure was pitiful (maybe because I was on 18th floor, but still)
-A/C didn't have an "always on" mode... it was implicitly on auto which I dislike.
-As Ambassador, the only "upgrade" I got was to a corner room which was still a little tight feeling. It had a sitting area, but the entry hallway and bathroom both felt narrow. Multiple suites and suite types were available for sale, and I had asked nicely via the app a few hours before checking in, but was only told they'd do what they could. They didn't.
Overall a visually delightful place, but I didn't like the function of the bed, shower, or A/C, so I probably will try some other place (perhaps the Westin or the Centric) next time I misconnect.
Some pics of the room, the custom-stamped rocks, and the lounge:
