The other property I'm now reconsidering as I look to burn my Marriott balance before March is RC Residences, where there's no resort fee and you get a large, well appointed room with a kitchen and washer/dryer, a bit removed from the craziness of Kalakaua. But no breakfast and no upgrades.
I had some friends staying there this week and went to visit. It was quite nice with a great view of the ocean. However, their two lanais were unusable in the afternoon as they faced west and the sun was too intense. I believe they booked through FHR which got them free breakfast.
I would also point out that I get tremendous value from all the gift cards I bought 2 years ago at 20% off plus all the Amex offers that give 20-25% off. Combine that with a BRG when available and it’s hard to beat the Marriott price point.
