if you go back 15-20 years it has always been like this. One aspect that doesn’t help the routes punctuality is the passenger mix. Something of a sweeping statement, but group travel and particularly cruise group bookings, mean it’s common for BA to wait for them. Add in normal operational issues and it adds up to a challenging route!
