I have a few hundred dollars of trip credit as the result of the pandemic that is set to expire in April. I have a newborn son and I do not want to travel due to the pandemic. I have tried asking AA if there is any way to extend the expiration of this credit but to no avail. I was wondering if there were any creative ways to extend this credit? I have a few ideas but not sure if they would work such as booking a trip with travel insurance and then cancelling or doing a multi-city trip where the first leg is a low-cost flight before the expiration date and the 2nd/3rd leg is just a round trip for later in 2022?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
