I assumed the reason they didn't buy fitted sheets was so they could just quantity purchase regular unfitted sheets, and only stock the sizes of the beds of the hotel, say King and Twin. This way they only have a King sheet and a Twin sheet, no fitted and unfitted. Easier to keep track of, and when something happens to the bottom sheet it can just be replaced with a top sheet, no pairs to keep up with.
I too would prefer that they use fitted as I hate when the bottom sheet comes up. A fitted sheet is a little more difficult to put on the bed, but hey, hotels are in the SERVICE business.
Occasionally I do see a fitted sheet on a hotel bed, but it is rare. Maybe if we start putting the suggestions of using fitted sheets on customer service cards.....
