I used VeriFly recently on a trip back to the UK from the US (mixture of AA and BA) - I was connecting in LAX. Despite all the paperwork going through in my original destination - I was paged at the Gate before boarding to re-check (they were about to offload my luggage)! This is despite all the paperwork having been deemed approved via VeriFly.
This is standard when you connect from an AA domestic to a BA transatlantic - nothing to do with Verifly - you need to re-check at the gate - takes all of 30 seconds. I believe its related to baggage reconciliation.
