I guess the Frontier product is what it is. I don't really understand why they'd want to have bad seats, but I guess the logic is they' save a few bucks and people could sit in them for a couple hours and not complain. The major airlines have gotten a lot of grief for their "slimline" seats, but I've found them fine for a long domestic flight. Frontier's seat is, um, a different animal. Still, if I'm not inclined to pay just $38 to sit in one of these seats for a transcon -- with ample legroom, no less -- I don't see how Frontier can fly transcons without suffering a huge revenue disadvantage. They're just not going to have a lot of repeat customers.
I got the light blue one that rolls up when deflated, very easy to use the clasp and carry it on the handle. Most of my flights are under 2 hours which is about the point where u would say I definitely need it. I have done some DEN-BWI and MIA trips where I was thankful to have it.
The rest of your comments are spot on. They really don't get many regulars other than for short flights. The prices for elites are really hard to beat, even more so if you buy at the counter. If I'm paying for it I'll pick them almost every time, really 20k elite is all that is needed. The other perks at 50k or 100k would be nice to have but 90% of the value is captured in 20k since you can carry on full size and usually get stretch for free.
