I’ve booked one of these rates before and asked my concierge about the policy.

She said that your points will be refunded but the hotel has the discretion to charge you rack rate for the canceled nights. That being said, I got the impression that rarely happens since it’s a manual process. But if it did, you’d have little recourse.
