And yes, apparently they charge you $5 for the headphones in coach.

And from reading this complaint page it seems that they indeed do charge $5 for headphones. I think that is a "rental" charge too.
Radio Shack has them, as do most stores that sell luggage accessories. I've even seen them in the newspaper/magazine stores at airports, though I wouldn't count on their availability there.
