Not taking flight, better to check in or not?

This is new territory for me, as I've never just left a flight booking go totally unused, so I'm looking for advice.

Have a dirt-cheap roundtrip booked on Spirit this weekend. With the omicron surge not dropping fast enough for my taste I've decided not to take the trip and to eat the $49 airfare. Obviously the Spirit cancellation fee is more than the airfare, so I was just going to abandon it, hoping for the miniscule possibility that the flight would be cancelled or rescheduled enough to trigger a refund.

With my outbound flight tomorrow morning, do I gain anything at all if I check in for the flight, knowing I'm not going to take it?
