Hmmm now others have mentioned this and I can't remember which way round it is, but there could be a motorway toll you have to pay when hiring a car for travel into the other jurisdiction. I seem to remember it's pretty pricey (although not as much as £150!)
I also remember that despite trying to be clever using side roads, there isn't really any way to avoid it. Is this something the OP should worry about or am I allowing inaccurate memories to cause unnecessary noise on this thread?!
That's the other way around I think .. taking a French car into Switzerland as the French car (probably) won't have the sticker on it for the Swiss Motorways - tolling in Switzerland ( and Austria and ? ) is not paying at a toll booth as you drive but rather buying a pass for a time period which is then displayed on your car and entitles you to use any motorway for the validity of that pass.
Taking a Swiss car into France shouldn't matter from this perspective as French motorway tolling doesn't work like this.
