It's a hotel that was built for business travelers with rental cars, families on car trips, and other guests arriving by car. If guests for two rooms arrive in the same car or if a guest arrives by Uber, then there's simply another empty space in the lot that night. The parking lot is part of the hotel's cost structure in any case.
This. The example I referenced above is a hotel in Hawaii that charges $35/day to self-park in their massive parking garage. There’s ample parking for all guests, so there’s no real need to charge it to manage capacity. It effectively boosts their $40 resort fee to $75.
