I recommend HUCA and specifically request the AA flights you want. Know the specific flight numbers and routing. Don't make the agent search. Don't mention anything else. If they say there is no inventory available at that level on those flights, succinctly ask them if they can open inventory due to the cancellation. Avoid any extraneous information.

You may still get a denial since all of the original flights were on BA, but it's worth another call that is short and to the point.
