That's right! Your experience will be different on the way home.
On the way out, you will have a T2 --> T2 connection. On the way back, you need to change T1 -->T2. When you arrive from MZT, don't follow signs for baggage claim. Instead, ask any Aeromexico staff where the connection bus leaves from (this is the Gate T bus). It should leave you at Gate 75, from where you go upstairs, clear security and then you can get to your gate. The long walk doesn't apply to you in this case.
The bags will go through both ways. I suggest you use the Premier lounge at T2.
