You may have found out by now, but yes absolutely you get platinum benefits including lounge / VIP area access on points bookings.

It seems one has to achieve 50 nights in a year, but when does the year begin?
No support from customer service....
It is a real weakness for Meliá that you can’t contact anyone easily who understands the program. With questions on MeliáRewards, you should oddly go to claim missing points section to email that team.

I’m a little confused about your counter movements and if you hit platinum?

My understanding is that you need 50 nights in your membership year. Your membership year is from opening of your account, but the virtual card in the app will show the month at least. If you hit the requirements for a higher tier part way through a membership year, your account will be upgraded to the next tier immediately (within 10 days I believe I was once advised), and you have 12 months from that upgrade date to stays 50 nights and retain platinum, otherwise you’ll drop down. So really your membership year has now changed and it’s a new membership year from the date you attained the new status.

A quirk is that the nights seem to credit a few days after check-in and not, as with any other program I know, after check out. So, say I have already stayed 36 nights with Melia and go for a 14 night stay before my membership year ends and the counter resets, you will probably end up hitting status in the middle of that 14 night stay. I’m not sure what Melia do if the 14 night stay went over two membership years and I get the feeling they wouldn’t know what happens either.
