I’ve stayed across the US in the last 2 years and never had anyone ever tell me at a Hyatt to ask on the day of check out. The whole point is to guarantee it regardless of predicted occupancy on your checkout date. They can grant it to you and offer you something to leave earlier if they absolutely need the room, but to say to ask the date of checkout is ludicrous. It’s something a Vegas hotel would say about offering their “elite” members late checkout, but not even at a Hyatt Place have I heard that.
Keep in mind I just became a Globalist (as I said upthread).
My experiences this past year were as an Explorist and I understand that 2pm checkout is technically subject to availability.
I've had ~15 stays in ~10 properties this past year, I estimate I probably inquire about late checkout at the time of check-in no more than 40% of the time and I know I've been denied the 2pm checkout at least 3x, that each of those times I was told to check back on the day of checkout.
I can't remember all the properties, but I remember the last two - Vail (that's a resort so I can't complain; no late checkout whatsoever) and Moab (I'm pretty sure it's not a resort but I'm not 100% certain; best they could do was either 11.30am or 12.30pm).
I hope my Globalist experiences will be different.
