Welcome to FlyerTalk and the AA forum, trishgriffith !

Well, think the I->D minimum connection time for FI -> AA is an hour and a half, so you technically do have a legal connection. With Global Entry + carryon only, if your inbound flight is on-time, you'll be just fine. (If it were me, I'd probably do it as long as I some flexibility in my schedule - that is, my presence wasn't required at a specific time/date in TYS.)

The question is...what's your tolerance and backup plan should your FI flight be delayed or ground crew/immigration/customs cause you to miss your TYS flight? And do you have a credit card or travel insurance that would kick in to help cover expenses if you did have to overnight? Getting a hotel in ORD area when you land would be straightforward and probably not much more expensive than if you were to book in advance (barring some massive flight cancellation event, e.g. weather, COVID19 staffing disruptions). Then there's the question of being able to get rebooked on the next available TYS flight (potentially having to pay fare difference for new flight, timing of next available flight not conducive to your schedule, etc.). If booking an overnight would just generally reduce anxiety, then that's a good option as well.
