I can't see how they can sustain it at the portal earn rates, you just know some blog is going to publish something like this Bonsai thing as a status 'hack'. I have to imagine it'll shake out as $1 = 1 LP across the dining & shopping portals.

That being said, maybe its a play to maintain elite numbers given I think we can all agree business travel will not be returning to its pre pandemic levels ever again.
