Yes, I would have thought so as well - and I think one would (eventually) get the status back-dated. But it's just not worth the hassle, if it can be avoided in other ways.
If I needed the TPs, I'd either book with BAH earlier than T-60 days, or go for flight-only and TP-optimise in other ways.
