I would argue the opposite. The only real use for me of Avios is for JL flights. JL you have to book at 355 days out or close, before the availability goes away. That gives only ~9 more months of use... and Avios with simple credit card or transfer activity in reality never expires, there's no way to keep the voucher alive.
