Of course, if you don't arrive in the hotel, you can't put the door hanger out.
At the Hyatt Place Waikiki, I kept the do not disturb on for one day during covid, and they put a really aggressive pre-printed note under my door that said they would be in my room to check it out in the next 24 hours - like it or not! It barely stopped short of dropping f-bombs.
But they never checked the room anyway.
Good to know! They must have reverted, or at least paused, the room check policy at some point then. Now that you mention it, I remembered having a "mandatory" housekeeping at a Marriott hotel one time as well. Was trying to get the "green" bonus points by declining housekeeping, but front desk told me no more than 3 days at a time. They did the same with a note under my door, though nowhere near as rude as what you described here. To me, it's almost more rude to be so aggressive first and then doesn't follow through...
