If you said paramedics were underappreciated and underpaid, I'm with you 100%. But it's abundantly clear you have no idea the scope and depth of training that a physician actually provides in an acute resuscitation.
It's amazing how uninformed the general populace is on what an Advanced Life Support Paramedic does and what their standing orders are. An acute resuscitation is exactly what ALS Paramedics are trained for, the difference is that they do it outside of a controlled environment with very little support. It is exactly those standing orders that create friction between Doctors, Nurses and Emergency Medical Technicians.
But to answer your question, I would take either an ALS Paramedic or an ER Physician if my life depended on it. The bill would be cheaper on an ambulance and the wait time to be seen would be quicker as well
