This is still mostly the case. We stayed there Dec 23-Dec 26th. We arrived really late at 4am on the 24th and they were very nice and accommodating with helping us get checked in and situated. Can't say enough good about the staff.

The hotel is still under renovations. It's decor is pretty Spartan, though some things have been added like a double chair for a seat in the lobby area lounge.

The renovations that are done are quite nice, though there's still some growing pains. Room doors stuck and required effort to close. Some people didn't get that and I saw some rooms were partially open late at night when people would normally be sleeping.

I don't know if the pool was open, but there was a pool table in the mezannie lounge that was free. The outdoor hot tub was open and was quite nice. No towels provided, though, so you need to bring your own.

So here's my list.

The good:

- Staff was phenomenal. Really good customer service and took care of anything we needed or had problems with.
- Completed renovations were nice
- Rooms decorated with skiing theme
- REALLY close to Ramshead/Snowshed base area (less than a mile).
- Nice views of Ramshead Mountain in some rooms.
- Significant savings with government rate
- Rustic feel

The bad:

- Doesn't meet Hilton's standard of cleanliness (explained below)
- Breakfast is chaotic and not well stocked
- Construction debris still apparent around the hotel
- No bar or restaurant yet, though kitchen appears functional
- People had dogs in the dining area
- Expensive for what you get
- Limited items in pantry store
- Coffee bar wasn't opened
- No dining options on Christmas

Cleanliness was my biggest gripe. We had some bad issues in our room. There were blood stains on some of the towels and also a really big blood (and some other stain) on the comforter. Both were very obvious. Took pictures and showed front desk staff in the morning. They replaced the items immediately and apologized. We also didn't have sufficient toiletries placed in the room (soap, shampoo). There was no cold water in the sink - only hot (shower was fine), but was fixed quickly.

Worse yet, though, was their was a mildew smell in our bathroom that permeated the whole room unless the bathroom door was closed. It was strongest in the corner by the sink. Couldn't see any apparent cause for it.

Breakfast was chaotic. It was more or less a slightly bigger version of a Hampton breakfast. Hotel was full for the holiday, but they seemed to run out of food and drinks a lot (except coffee) and weren't very quick at replacing it. Also people had dogs in the dining room and were feeding them. I don't mind pets and there was no problem with noise. Just not appropriate for a public dining area. The coffee bar in the lobby wasn't open yet either.

Pantry area had limited stock. Mostly a cooler full of beer/wine and another one with a few drinks (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Gatorade). Also some candy bars and a few bag of chips. They had some local souvenirs like spices and Vermont maple syrup available. Staff didn't charge us for non-alcoholic drinks and were very generous giving out water bottles for free. I know my wife got a jug of syrup, but I don't think they charged her for it.

There weren't any dining options for Christmas. It would have nice if they had at least a list of places that were open Christmas in the area and even in Rudford. There were a couple places we found that opened late, but were pretty expensive. There was a grocery store down the road that was open, but that was about it. We had some of our own food with us, like noodle bowls and snacks, so we at least had something.

Double beds were on the small side.

This places attracts groups due to the closeness to the base area so it can get noisy.

The fire alarm went off while we were there and had to evacuate. Not the staff's or hotel's fault. A young woman down the hall from us tried to microwave a donut (rooms have both a fridge and microwave) still inside the package and it set the microwave on fire (a lot of smoke) . Fire was out quickly and it caused a bad smell. Fire department came and cleared the facility and we were back in about 5 minutes after they came.

There was some construction debris around, like drywall/spackled dust on the floor that was never vacuumed. I wonder how often they vacuumed the halls.

Here's the big rub: the hotel's not ready for prime time yet, especially at the going rates. Rates were normally $330 a night. I would have been extremely upset had I experienced what I did at that price. They offered the government rate (Hilton allows it for leisure travel) and we paid about $120 night. It was acceptable at that rate. Right now, you're mainly paying for very close access to one of Killington's base areas.

I would call and talk to the property before booking. If you can get a really good rate around the gov rate, go for it. You're probably not going to find much better at that price in Killington.

Maybe once they finish, it'll be a great place. And they really need to address housekeeping for slacking and putting unacceptable linens in the bathroom and on beds. But it's not there right now. Really wonder what the place was like before Hilton took it over.
